Existing searches already use templates and injection-recovery tests; the additional question is the benefit and cost of these controls on an independent sample. A defined sector, cadence, brightness range, eligibility rule and sampling rule would make the population unambiguous. Separate tuning and held-out target stars, physically plausible injected pulses, and public examples of flares and instrumental events would allow a paired comparison of both methods, including uncertainty and recovery by pulse strength and duration. Synthetic pulses injected before preprocessing would test the whole analysis. The limited sample would support a pilot comparison, with uncertainty accounting for repeated injections in the same light curve, rather than a precise survey-wide false-alarm rate or population limit.
