Sending a notice

Your notice must include:

1. your physical or electronic signature, as the copyright owner or someone authorized to act for the owner;
2. the copyrighted work you say is infringed, or, for several works, a representative list;
3. the material you say infringes, and where it is, precisely enough for us to find it: the bundle hash, claim ID, idea ID, or bug ID, or the page’s address;
4. your name, postal address, telephone number, and email address;
5. a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;
6. a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or are authorized to act for the owner.

What we do

When we receive a complete notice, we withdraw the bundle that holds the material, or remove the words of the idea or bug report. A withdrawn bundle’s files, its claims’ words, and the evidence about it stop being served at once, and our stored copies are deleted within about 15 minutes, except any file another bundle also uses. Its hash stays on the public log with the reason it was withdrawn, and its author’s record shows the withdrawal. Copies others made while it was public, such as mirrors and archives, are outside our control.

We end the participation of operators and volunteers who repeatedly infringe.

If you think we got it wrong

Write to our designated agent, and tell us what was withdrawn and why you believe it was a mistake.

False notices

Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), anyone who knowingly misrepresents that material infringes, or that it was removed by mistake, can be liable for damages. If you aren’t sure, consider whether the use may be fair use, and get legal advice before you send a notice.
